READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME

This sequel picks up immediately after the finale of the first film (from 2019), with Samara Weaving returning as Grace MacCaullay. After surviving the Le Domas family’s life and death ritual, Grace is shocked to learn that their failure to execute her has triggered a scenario where four rival dynasties must now hunt her down themselves in order to claim global power.
The introduction of so many new characters ups the stakes and gives this a slight edge over its leaner-cast predecessor. Grace’s estranged younger sister Faith (Kathryn Newton), is dragged into the game, which plays out across a luxury golf course resort. Horror royalty Sarah Michelle Gellar is power hungry Ursula Danforth and Elijah Wood is the lawyer (aptly named ‘The Lawyer’) who ensures everyone adheres to the rules of engagement. There’s an abundance of wincingly creative kills and the chaos of having multiple wealthy families competing against each other adds a fun element. Some parts are slightly far fetched, least of all the plot thread that the uber rich are devil worshippers, which could well be the most believable element. With over 1,230 litres (325 gallons) of fake blood used during filming, the gore factor is high as people splatter from the inside out. Filled with dark humour, the most memorable scene is a hilariously choreographed fistfight between Grace and Francesca El Caido (Maia Jae Bastidas) that involves pepper spray and Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 power ballad ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. A slick, blood-soaked romp that understands how to entertain.
