FUZE
Paddington in London grinds to a halt when an unexploded World War II bomb is discovered half-buried on a busy construction site. Chief Superintendent Zuzana (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) orders an exclusion zone and Police evacuate everyone in the vicinity. Military bomb disposal expert Major Will Tranter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is called in to manage the threat, but his attempts to defuse the device don’t go to plan. While the authorities are distracted, a group of criminals, including Karalis (Theo James) and X (Sam Worthington), breach the exclusion zone to rob a bank vault filled with jewellery. The two story threads initially don’t seem to tie together, other than occurring concurrently, but as several unexpected twists unfold, pieces of the plot puzzle fall into place. Coming out of the gate hard, this film launches into the action immediately and the pace is consistent all the way to the end. It doesn’t blow the roof off (pun intended), but I was entertained and invested.
